Iran Protests Intensify as Internet Blackouts and Crackdowns Spread Across Country

Protests across Iran have escalated into their third consecutive week, with demonstrators demanding political reforms and relief from economic pressures including inflation and unemployment. Security forces have imposed a widespread internet and phone blackout in major cities including Tehran and Isfahan, in an effort to limit public communication and media coverage. Human rights groups report that the death toll has surpassed 500 and more than 10,000 people have been detained amid the ongoing crackdown. The unrest has drawn international concern over civil liberties and government tactics, as well as diplomatic pressure calling for restraint. Meanwhile, the communication blackout has severely restricted independent reporting on the ground, complicating verification of events and limiting independent journalism.
